Description

A few passengers wait for the next train at the Oktogon underground station in Budapest.

Oktogon station is on the oldest underground line (M1) in the city and has the original, more traditional style of decor. Opening in 1896, it is the world's second oldest electrified underground railway after the City and South London Railway of 1890.

The line was inaugurated in 1896 by emperor Franz Joseph. as the "Franz Joseph Underground Electric Railway Company".
